AI Innovation Hub

Plastics Recycling Show Europe 2026 will feature a dedicated AI Innovation Hub, highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in advancing plastics recycling technologies.

Taking place at RAI Amsterdam on 5–6 May 2026, the hub will showcase practical, real-world applications of AI across the recycling value chain — from product design and feedstock selection to collection, sorting, processing and material sourcing.

Through live demonstrations and interactive displays, visitors will gain insight into how AI is improving efficiency, accuracy and transparency throughout the industry.

Live Demonstrations

Robotic Sorting with AI – Antfarm

Antfarm will demonstrate its latest advances in robotic waste sorting with a live showcase of its Swarm Alpha system. A fleet of autonomous robots will sort real-world waste streams, including bottles, cans and cartons.

Also launching at PRSE 2026 is Antfarm Beta, a next-generation system designed to deliver significantly higher throughput. The system uses robots that pick individual objects and place them into onboard bins, enabling faster and more efficient sorting.

The demonstration will include:

  • AI-powered vision technology for real-time material recognition
  • A live dashboard displaying system performance, including materials sorted and picks per minute
  • Insight into how swarm robotics can scale sorting capacity and operational efficiency

AI Material Analysis via Smartphone – Safi

Safi will present its latest phone-based AI material analysis technology, allowing visitors to experience the solution first-hand.

Using a smartphone, visitors will be able to analyse a typical bale of recycled PET material and see the AI working live, demonstrating how material assessment can be carried out quickly and efficiently on site.

The Role of AI in Plastics Recycling

AI technologies are increasingly being adopted across the plastics recycling sector to:

  • Improve sorting accuracy and material quality
  • Reduce manual handling and operational costs
  • Optimise plant performance and collection routes
  • Support data-driven pricing and decision-making
  • Enable traceability and transparency across supply chains when combined with blockchain solutions

These developments are helping recyclers and processors increase efficiency, reduce environmental impact and maximise material value.
