Detailed information

trinamiX GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of BASF, enables on-the-spot plastic sorting with its Mobile Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy Solution.

Using trinamiX technology, the composition of plastic parts can be rapidly identified through a handheld device that combines patented NIR detectors, sophisticated data analysis, and a user-friendly mobile app. As such, trinamiX enables plastics collectors, brokers, and recyclers to get more value out of waste.

All common plastics can be easily identified within seconds. The spectrum ranges from classic polyolefins such as PE, PP and PVC (polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride), to PET (polyethylene terephthalate), which is best known as a material for beverage bottles. In addition, technical plastics such as ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) or PA (polyamide), whose distinction is particularly important for the recycling companies, can also be correctly identified in the field (especially in blends with other plastics).

The list of supported plastics is continuously growing as trinamiX is able to integrate additional materials according to customer requirements.
